This liquor license was issued on May 1, 1864 exactly six months before Nevada was to become a state. It was issued to Duncan & Hannah. Duncan most assuredly is in reference to John Duncan - one of Austin's early and most famous businessmen/bankers. One of the interesting things about this license is that the cost was fifteen dollars. That number is handwritten and 'forty-five' has been crossed out. Was the camp already experiencing a decline in profit? Central toning, please inspect. Austin Nevada
