Second dividend of 10 shares for f$50.00. Signed by president WS Gage and secretary MA Sawtelle. Austin was one of the major mining centers in Nevada in the 1860's But it was being left out! The Central Pacific Railroad would not come near. So in 1868 (the year the CP RR was completed) local businessmen bought shares it the Austin & Reese River Transportation Company with the goal of building a first class freighting road to the CP R. Charles Crocker himself guaranteed the citizens of Austin a city wherever their road ended and Argenta was the place. Argenta never amounted to much and the destination was changed to Battle Mountain. In 1880 the Nevada Central Railroad was completed and the Austin and R. R. Transportation Company was disbanded. This was a toll road and hence the dividends. More background notes are included, mostly garnered from "Retracing the Past: The Austin & Reese River Transpiration Company Toll Road" by Hartwell, Barrett, and Edwards.
