Hudson Motor Car operated from 1909-1954. Nash Motors operated from 1916-37, forming the Nash-Kelvinator Corp. 1937-54. In 1954 with falling revenues Hudson merged with Nash-Kelvinator forming American Motors Corp (AMC). During this time AMC began talk w/Packard (1899-1958) for parts building and possible merger. In 1954 Packard (1899-1954) acquired Studebaker forming the Packard-Studebaker Co. With death of the AMC Pres. Mason, the merger never came about, but the parts agreement stood. Packard name was dropped in 1962, coinciding w/the introduction of the Avanti under the Studebaker name. AMC also acquired Kaiser Jeep and Willy's Overland and by 1987 was sold to Chrysler Corp. Studebaker, in 1962, closed one plant in South Bend selling cars until 1966. The South Bend plant was acquired by Avanti Motor Co. Through several mergers and eventually owned by Silver Knight Group which plans to bring Studebaker-Packard Corp. back. Ken Prag Collection
