The numerous, incredible azurite specimens produced since ore production started at the Milpillas Mine in 2006, have lead many mineral experts to proclaim Milpillas azurite specimens as the world's finest examples of the species. Milpillas azurites typically exhibit a slightly lighter blue color (more appealing) than the dark blackish-blue azurite crystals found at most worldwide locales. This azurite crystal cluster possesses the pleasing blue color, strong luster, and sharp crystal form of top Milpillas azurite specimens. You will note on this specimen, a minor association with the dark-green copper carbonate mineral malachite. Azurite specimen production was strong at Milpillas from 2008 through 2015, but, the discovery of azurite specimens has slowed dramatically as ore mining has passed through the azurite-bearing, surface oxide zone and has moved into the solid chalcocite orebody beneath. It is little wonder that many advanced mineral collectors have acquired multiple azurite specimens from Milpillas for their collections. Dimensions (cm): 2.1 H x 5.7 W x 4 D.
