Lot of one stock certificate and related letter that have been graded 35 (Choice Very Fine) by PMG and come in PMG holder. 1) Leadville, Colorado. Lake County. Leadville Mining District. Incorporated under the laws of the State of New York. Certificate No. A2514 issued to A.C. Brownell for 100 shares on January 18, 1881. Dateline New York. Signed by Chas. Wendell as President (listed as VP on letterhead of note) and Sam'l R. Earls as Secretary. Vignette overlooking mine dump, buildings, and a tent on rolling, tree dotted hills at center top. "Fryerhill, Leadville, Col." printed below vignette. Green print and border, embossed seal at bottom left. Uncancelled. Approx. 7 x 11". Dated and endorsed by Brownell on reverse. Printed by Franklin Bank Note Company, N.Y. Gold was discovered in California Gulch in 1860, where Bald Mountain MC was located. One fold line with several light creases, otherwise very fine. 2) Letter from Chas. Wendell to Mr. Knox dated March 29, 1881. Dateline New York. Letter discusses stock reduction from $10,000,000 to $1,000,000 with 100,000 shares at $10 each, that Mr. Knox' stock will be attended to when the new certificates are available, and that the company has not secured the extension of all the notes yet.
