High-grade, Banded Native Gold in Massive Banded Pyrite, Alaska, 3.6 pound cut, polished surface museum quality specimen from the Fechner Collection, an Alaskan geologist, collected circa early 1980s. No label with this specimen, so the mine location is unknown. Virtually all of Fechner's gold specimens were from Alaska. This specimen is marked on the side: "Bould crado (sp?, or "boulderado"?) Haines". We were unable to understand the location designation for this gold mine near Haines.
7.5" x 4" x 2" thick.
Banded massive disseminated pyrite with gold rich areas, part of and parallel to the pyrite banding in a black matrix. Our Alaska mining friends must certainly recognize this location, but we were unable to find it. The specimen is striking, and has an excellent gold content.
