Rare! Invoice No. 1, dateline Virginia City, Aug. 21st, 1875. For bullion shipped to the Carson Mint (Bank of California San Francisco crossed out). Three 1400 ounce bars from assayer DW Balch, 0.957-.962 fineness silver. At this time, Balch was running the Comstock Lode Assay Office in Virginia City. He briefly served as assayer for the Mint in 1869. He previously worked for the Gould & Curry Mill, as well as the Savage Assay Office in the 1860s. Notation on the form for "EN", which is likely Edward Niles, Chief Clerk to V&T gen. superintendent Henry Yerington. 6 x 8" Folds. This is the first one of these we've ever seen.
