Great pair. 1) Premier piece is the Bank of California Duplicate of Exchange signed by president D.O. Mills. No. 19715, issued Oct. 9, 1867 to William Bagley for $100 in U.S. Gold Coin. Blue 10 cent California revenue stamp and orange 2 cent IR stamp. Both tied by bold blue cancel. Folds, toning. 4 x 9" Mills was one of the original investors in the Bank, as well as part-owner of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. 2) Lees & Waller, Bankers, New York. Pictorial Duplicate exchange. Issued Sept. 5, 1868 to WIlliam L. Duval for 100 dollars in gold coin. To be drawn on the Bank of California in San Francisco. Signed Lees & Waller. Vignette of prospector.
