A group of seven unique and rare Jenny Lind tokens/jeton created and struck by the Birmingham, England firm of John Allen and Joseph Moore . Most are gold plated with a likeness of the "Swedish Nightingale" on the obverse and different symbols from a goose and eagle to wreaths on the reverse. This group also comes with a booklet entitled Numismatic Notes & Monographs The Jenny Lind Medals & Tokens, signed by the author, Leonidas Westervelt, published in 1921. The tokens include an 18 mm gold plated goose on reverse (Note: This piece is not shown in the book), a 16 mm game counter stars & leaf on reverse, a 20 mm white metal with wreath on reverse, a 20 mm holed gold plated, with wreath on reverse, a 20 mm gold plated, Jeton on reverse, an 18 mm white metal with goose on reverse and a 20 mm gold plated Spiel Mark on reverse. All are in good/to very good condition. Although these were referred to as "Counters," it's possible, as with the Tom Thumb tokens, P.T Barnum used these as promotional handouts. See accompanying story. View photos for more detail.
