# 252 for 100 shares to LE Hawkins. Signed by H Cummings (?) and president Frank Groure(?). Dateline New York 1879. Incorporated July 15, 1879. Not cancelled. Mountain mill vignette. Printer was American Bank Note. One small light stain top middle. Excellent looking cert. One of Colorado’s richest, deepest, and most advanced gold mines for its time (1877-1885), the Bassick was so large that it directly supported the adjacent town of Querida. The Bassick Mining Company built a mill to treat gold ore, fluming the tailings into an adjacent creek for disposal. Querida, also known as Bassick City after its founder E. C. Bassick, was founded to serve the surrounding mines. The most popular of which was Bassick Mine. In its heyday in the 1880s it had more than 500 residents, but by 1906 the town was abandoned.
