DON CAMERON / BEAR SALOON / LEADVILLE, / COLO. // GOOD FOR / ONE / 121/2¢ / DRINK; Br., octagonal, 25 mm. This proprietor and saloon appear in newspaper articles in the 1890s. In 1898, the saloon's license was temporarily revoked for bad behavior. In July 1899, Cameron (and his bartender Henry O'Donnell) were arrested and accused of trying to hold-up and rob a different Leadville saloon owned by John Conley. Cameron had been shot by Conley in the attempt. He denied the charges, but the police did not believe his story and even thought the pair had been planning to do additional robberies.
