This is the rare $100. This is legal tender offered by the Belfast Mining Company. Graded PMG at 62; uncirculated. Vignette of an allegorical woman on a rock in front of a clipper ship. Also George Washington. The Georgia gold rush was the first gold rush in America. It began in 1828. White settlement began in earnest in the early 1830's when Federal troops were withdrawn to protect the Cherokee Indians who owned this land. By December 1834, the first of the great mining companies, the Pigeon Roost Mining Company, received its charter, followed swiftly in the same month by the Belfast Mining Company. The Belfast was actually located in Auraria. But in 1835 Dahlonega was chosen as county seat (only five miles from Auraria) and Auraria businesses quickly moved to the new county seat.
