A later photograph of a cabinet card of three men, one identified as Ed Reed, son of Belle Starr. 6.5" x 4.5". Handwritten on reverse, "Ed Reed on the right. Picture made in Claremore, Indiana Territory. Ed Reed was United States Marshal at Fort Smith, Ark. for two years. He killed two ex-United States Marshalls and was later killed." Myra Maybelle Shirley Reed (Belle) Starr (1848 ñ 1889), was an outlaw associated with the JamesñYounger Gang and other outlaws. She was fatally shot in 1889 in a case that is still officially unsolved, and later became a popular character in television and films. Ed "Eddie" Reed was convicted of horse theft and receiving stolen property in July 1889 and was sent to prison. Belle's daughter Rosie Reed, also known as Pearl Starr, became a prostitute to raise funds for Eddie's release. Eddie became a deputy in Fort Smith and killed two outlaw brothers named Crittenden in 1895, and was himself killed in a saloon in Claremore, OK, in 1896. Pearl operated several bordellos in Van Buren and Fort Smith, AR, from the 1890s to World War I. [] [] [] [] []
