Silver Star District, Storey County, N.T. (printed at the top). Incorporated March 10, 1863 under the laws of Nevada Territory. Dateline Gold Hill, N.T., July 1st, 1863. No. 140, issued for 7 shares to S.B. Turner. Signed by the president, P.H. Herley, and secretary R.W. Billet. Not cancelled. Vignette of allegorical woman with shield and eagle and smaller vignette of a dog head. "Belle Union" printed in the background, partially obscured by sideways 25 cent IR stamp. Printed by the Enterprise (Samuel Clemens/Mark Twain was there at this time). Folds, creases, some staining. Not listed in the Filer Collection. Listed in the 1864 Collins VC directory as having 1,400 ft in the Silver Star District, Billet as secretary, and office at 33 South C. Street in Virginia City. Billet is also listed as the secretary for the Consolidated Cedar Hill and the Poorman. Turner is listed as a secretary for mining companies (Arizona, Clement, Independent, Russian, and United American) living at the International Hotel. The Silver Star District was1 1/4 miles east of Virginia City and Gold Hill and lies parallel to the Comstock Lode.
