20 issued, 1910-27. Belt Rail Road & Stock Yard was incorp. June 28, 1873 to construct, operate and maintain railroad around the city from North Indianapolis to Brightwood. Railroad and stockyards opened on Nov. 12, 1877 with over 200 freight cars passing over the 14 miles of track on the 1st day. New livestock buildings had the capacity for holding 25,000 hogs and 3,000 head of cattle or mules and was located on 8 acres of former river bottom land acquired from the heirs of Nicolas McCarty, Sr.
