Location: Hungaria Ledge, Washington Mining District, Lander County, N. T. Small 5c and 20c revenue stamps. Not cancelled. Native american vignette and a river scene vignette. Francis, Valentine & Co printer. Folds, toning and left side corner issues. None of which is dramatic. Original trustees of this company were A. M. Hay, W. D. Robertson, D. T. Berry, W. A. Thornburgh, and Werner Phillips. Incorporated by the same trustees in the same location as the Live Oak, Merrimac, and Badger. It was common in those days to divide a property into several different mines to raise as much money as possible. Whether this was done to further the mining or the owners pockets we are unsure. District is located in Nye County on the western slope of the Toiyabe Range about 25 miles south of Austin. Vanderburg (1939) placed this district partly in Lander County, [Mining Districts of Nevada] by Tingley] THe district is a few miles west of the Kingston District. Mining was done along Washington Creek, Cottonwood Creek, and San Juan Creek. This area was extremely active in 1863 and 1864. Prag Collection
