Land deed signed by Benjamin Franklin as President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, April 11, 1787 for 282 acres known as "Powersburg", on the west side of Pine Creek. The deed mentions the land "from the late purchase" which was that the land was recently purchased from the Indians. A royalty of one fifth of the minerals produced was due the Commonwealth of PA. Hyatt's notes indicate "in the early days it was thought our mountains contained quantities of gold and silver" (Hyatt provenance document, p16).
The Constitutional Convention began about a month after this document was signed.
Franklin had been elected as the President of the executive Council of Pennsylvania in 1785, 1786, and 1787, when he was chosen as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention.
In 1790, two months before he died, he performed his "last public duty", signing a petition to Congress for the abolition of slavery. about 30 x 30" From the Hyatt Estate.
