No. 68, issued for the year 1899 to Col. AB Chandler. Signed by president McCullough. Black and red print on light cardstock. Fantastic vignette of the Bennington Battle Monument. Printed by RA Supply Co. Not endorsed on the reverse. Some staining. The Bennington Battle Monument is over 300 ft. tall and was completed and dedicated in 1891. It is constructed from blue-grey magnesian limestone. The Monument was built to commemorate the Battle of Bennington which occurred on August 16, 1777, and is considered to be the turning point in the Revolutionary War. This railroad ran from Bennington to Rutland, Vermont. Col. AB Chandler is likely Vermont resident Albert Brown Chandler, known for his association with Abraham Lincoln during Chandler's service as a War Department telegraph operator during the American Civil War, and his later work as president of the Postal Telegraph Company. In 1875, Chandler became general manager of the Atlantic and Pacific Telegraph Company.
