An unusually greenish-blue aquamarine crystal cluster on feldspar matrix from Erongo Mountain, Namibia. Typically the aquamarine found in the many gem-bearing pegmatite veins on and around Erongo Mountain have more of a sky-blue color. The aquamarine crystals on this specimen are also large for the area, they have brilliant luster, and are transparent to translucent. A very attractive collector-quality mineral specimen. Erongo Mountain is one of Namibia's most popular tourist attractions. The 2,320 meter tall Erongo Mountain is an eroded relic of a volcano that was active some 140-150 million years ago. It collapsed in on its magma chamber, allowing the basin to fill with slow-cooling igneous material which is the source for the many gem-bearing pegmatites in the area. This roughly circular massif, dominates the flat plains west of Omaruru and gives the Erongo region its name. Dimensions (cm): 5 H x 11.3 W x 6 D. Location: Erongo Mountain, Usakos & Omaruru District, Namibia
