Lot of two. 1) John Bidwell held a unique place in the history of the West. The Bidwell-Bartelson party was the first wagon train party to cross from American to California blazing the trail for hundreds of thousands to follow. Bidwell was a California pioneer who settled at Bidwell, now Chico. Bidwell worked for John Sutter, fought with him in the Mexican War in 1844 and later with Fremont. He was with Sutter right after Marshalls discovery and found gold on the Feather River. Bidwell was in politics, friends of the Indians, and was a source of political and economic stability for the region.This is stock certificate #66 for 20 shares issued to Lafayette Fargo in 1867.
