This is a great pictorial letterhead for the Black Belle Gold Mining Company, "Miners of Gold Ore from the Black Belle Mine, Cripple Creek, Colorado." It features a very rare African American vignette. What makes this letter even more special is the content. It is sent from company president GM Carter to Cripple Creek mining millionaire AE Carlton, also known as the "King of Cripple Creek." Carter writes: "When I spoke to you about having a scheme on the train the other night I was in earnest and I think it is a good one..." He goes on to describe that the company has a small machinery plant and 18 acres of ground on Beacon Hill, incl. The Black Bell [sic.], Black Bell [sic.] No. 2 and the Storm. "No debts or no salaries." He owns a quarter of the company's stock and he thinks they can make a profit if Carlton buys the stock and they flip the property. 10.5 x 8.25" Folds, discoloration along the top.
