Four items related to the death of Louis McHenry Howe. He was President Roosevelt's secretary. Howe started working for Roosevelt in 1911 and became his confidant, mentor, and jolly chum. 1-2) Black border invitation and envelope to Hon. James P. Buchanan. He was a Texas Representative from 1913 until his death in 1937. He was a conservative Democrat and opposed Roosevelt's New Deal. Envelope has large rip on top right. "Present this card at the Northwest Gate of the White House / Tuesday Afternoon / April 21, 1936 / at 1:30 O'clock." 4 x 5". 3) "Order of Memorial Exercises in the House of Representatives / Tuesday April 21, 1936 / at twelve o'clock meridian." Four page booklet. 4) Four page "Funeral Services for the late Louis McHenry Howe. Only front page is used. "You are invited to be present with the ladies of your family. "April 20, 1936, White House." All must have belonged to Buchanan.
