A blank award plaque, approximately 8 inches square, made of dark wood on which is bolted a brass representation of the famous Liberty Bell. The words "Liberty Bell Award" appear in raised relief on the bell mount, and "Law Day USA" appears on the bell. Below the bell is a 4 x 1.5-inch blank brass plaque held onto the wood by two brass screws. According to a January 1992 article in the Michigan Bar Journal by Norman Otto Stockmeyer, Jr., the Liberty Bell Award honors persons outside of the legal profession who have contributed to greater understanding of the legal system, participated in to the betterment of their communities, or helped to strengthen and improve the American system of justice. It is presented by local or special-purpose bar associations as a highlight of their annual Law Day breakfasts. luncheons, or dinners. This comes from material that remained unsold after the liquidation of Northwest Territorial Mint.
