Cert. #281, issued in 1906 at Blue Canon, Cala. To H.P. Shrace for 100 shares. Signed by W.H. Holmes as vice-president and J.B. Knapp as secretary. The co. incorporated in California in 1896. Blue Canon, also known as Blue Canyon, is located 4 mi. southwest from Emigrant Gap, near present day I-80, the highway to Donner Summit from Sacramento. Blue Canyon was named for "Old Jim" Blue, who mined there in the 1850's (Gudde). Much hydraulic mining was carried out at Blue Canon by 1870 (Whitney). Various types of mining were carried on there in the early 1900's. Two holes punched in left border were not meant to cancel the certificate in our estimation.
