This boatstone has been worked on all surfaces. It appears to have been made of red clay at 3.25 in. / 83 mm 2.2 oz. The stone has been incise carved on all surfaces. This specimen has string grooves on the top and sides as well as a slight trough on the bottom for atlatl shaft alignment. It appears that boatstones were used to add mass to the atlatl shaft, increasing distances thrown or increasing impact force. An extremely rare find. Originally marked as found at Mayes County Grand River. Also tagged for 1953 as a museum piece. This area is now damned to create Lake Hudson and may give significance to this find. From the Bracken collection. Please see photos for details. (ref. Oklahoma Indian Artifacts, Bell, 1980). Oklahoma
