Mackay and Fair were half of the "Bonanza King" Firm along with Flood and O'Brien, who worked mostly out of San Francisco. 1) 1869 Bank of California check issued to Spaulding & Gearhart (livery) for $48. Signed by mining millionaire superintendent John W. Mackay. Orange NV and US IR stamps attached. 2) Bacon Mill check issued in 1872 to James Arthur (listed as a miner for the Crown Point in the 1873 V&T directory). Signed by James G. Fair, who went on to become a US Senator for Nevada. RN-E imprinted revenue.
