Three booklets regarding a court case in San Francisco related to the Virginia City Fire of 1875, Thomas H. Williams vs the Hartford Insurance Company. The following paragraph is from a piece of paper that came with the lot, "At 5:15 am on the morning of October 26, 1875, a lamp started a fire in Virginia City, Nevada. It became known as 'The Great Fire of 1875.' More than two thousand structures were completely destroyed including homes, churches, saloons, hotels, mills, and mining buildings. This is the case of Thomas H. Williams vs. the Hartford Insurance Company. Williams owned a hotel on Main Street. Thief buildings, made of brick, melted due to the intense heat. California provided immediate humanitarian relief. The total losses amounted to over $10,000. Williams was in pursuit of the insurance money to rebuild." These booklets are from 1878 and 1880. 9.75 x 7, very good condition.
