1885, Harpers, New York. The classic biography of George Custer by his wife.
This is a rare blue binding without the map on page 9.
Howes (980) reports two different issues of this work with the same pagination and imprint, but one has a map added on page 9. It is thought by some that the map only came with the brown hard binding, while the dark blue binding appears to be the version without the map, however, some brown bound copies offered on the web appear to be absent the map. Howes, nor elsewhere, seem to discuss that there are (at least) two different colored bindings and paper quality, each printed by Harper's in 1885. Of note, the paper quality in this blue bound version is of a thicker, coarser wove paper of apparent lesser quality than the brown map version.
Wear at spine ends, separation of front board starting. black colors on the binding are weak.
