Three certificates from the Halifax Tonopah Mining Company that operated at Tonopah. F.M. (Borax) Smith was involved with this company. The first certificate is issued in 1912 and signed by F.M. Smith as president. The second certificate is also issued in 1912, but signed by Thomas Kearns as vice-president. The third certificate is issued in 1935 and has an eagle vignette. All are uncancelled. By 1913, Smith was on the verge of financial ruin and had to sign his assets over to the bankers for liquidation. Luckily, Smith had deeded his mansion and controlling interest in the West End Consolidated Mining Company to his wife before the fall. The West End Consolidated, in Tonopah was a profitable company.
