MIDNIGHT RIDES AND FOUNDING FATHERS! Third Boston directory! This 1798 directory lists Samuel Adams living on Winter Street. He had just finished his last term as Governor of the state succeeding John Hancock at his death. Also one can find Paul Revere. He is listed as a bell and Cannon founder on Lynn Street. In 1792, he became one of America's best-known bell casters, working with sons Paul Jr. and Joseph Warren Revere. He is also listed as a silversmith on Ann Street and his house is on North Square. This directory was printed by Rhoades and Laughton, for John West, no. 75, Cornhill. “containing the names of the inhabitants, their occupations, places of business, and dwelling-houses ... a list of all the stages that run from Boston ...: To which is prefixed, a general description of Boston.” Book is in poor condition. Front cover and title page have had “Horatio N. Glover’s” information pasted on it. (Glover manufactured gum, starch, and dextrin and had a large business exporting to all areas of the United States.) Title page has been torn in two, and has been glued together. Corners of many pages are suspect. Plan of the town, from actual survey and stage information on last two pages and have been ripped out of book. Despite all of the negatives, this is still a very early Untied States directory of an (the?) most important town in 1798! 146 pages. [Rarity: iv]City: BostonCounty: State: MADate:
