A scarce historical bill of lading for the Timothy Davis & Co's Line, Winged Racer, 1854 voyage from Boston to San Francisco. This pre-printed 11" x 7" document has a clipper vignette with banner, Timo Davis & Co's Line. For San Francisco. No. 8 is handwritten in script above the vignette. Also handwritten are the invoice #1854, the invoice calculations and amount due (a total of $1.31), the sender's name, D.F. Patch, captain's name, Gorham, the cargo, One Bale (or Case) Hay and who it would be delivered to, Howard Day. Signed and dated by Tim o Davis, 1854. Please see photo for more details.
The Winged Racer was mentioned in an article, Old Marblehead Sea Captains and the Ships in Which They Sailed, Compiled and Published for the Benefit of the MARBLEHEAD HISTORICAL SOCIETY, By Benjamin J. LINDSEY, Treasurer, 1915, who wrote that from 1851-1853 (just prior to the voyage on the invoice) the Ship Winged Racer sailed to California and Manila, with Capt. Homan at the helm. "Capt.
