Very early! In. in Massachusetts. No. 160, issued for 100 shares to William H. Burrall of Springfield, Massachusetts on July 27th, 1865. Signed by president Horace Lee and treasurer R. Hawkins. Not cancelled. Brown border and print with a patriotic and allegorical vignette under the title. 25 cent adhesive revenue stamp attached on the left, pen cancelled. Printed by Alfred Mudge & Son, Boston. 7.25 x 10.25 Folds with some separation. Other light wear. Very good overall. According to Hollister, 1867, the company was located on Mill Creek near Spring Gulch in the Morris and Downieville Districts. They are represented by W.R. Hawkins of Mill City. They were sinking a shaft (140 ft) and running an adit and tunnel on the Herring lode. The adit at 900 ft. would intersect the shaft at a depth of 450 ft. "No well defined vein of ore yet, but mixed through the crevice." "...pursuing a wise policy in developing their mines before erecting expensive reduction works" [pg. 243]. () Ken Prag Collection
