This photograph is identified in pen on the reverse as "Pen Gulch." We believe this to be the Penn Gulch (also known as Pennsylvania Gulch and then later Sunset) that was a town located in Boulder County and part of the Greeley, Salt Lake & Pacific narrow gauge railroad line (the "Switzerland Trail."). The landscape is definitely Colorado. The view shows a locomotive stopped next to a depot, with a few buildings on the other side of the two tracks. There are people with wagons in front of the depot, and people posing in front of the other buildings as well. In the background, you can see two bridges the tracks cross. The hillside has many fallen trees, as well as on the ground near the tracks. Thus, we believe this photograph may represent the area after a devastating Boulder County flood in 1894. The tracks were then rebuilt in 1897 by the Colorado & Northwestern. No photographer is listed. 5 x 8" Some staining.
