This is a two-piece box, turn of the century UMC. 20 rounds of 50-70 in brass cases. This was used by the US army form 1866 to 1874. The 50-70 round was a Civil War and Indian Wars cartridge used by soldiers at famous battle sites and used by hide hunters of the buffalo slaughter on the plains. These rounds used external priming (center fire) still black powder cartridges. This cartridge was used in both rifles and carbines of the period for military and civilian use.
