City of Leadville license to Burke & Clow to hold a "Glove Contest" on the tenth day of October 1885. Signed by Leadville Mayor J. Irwin. gold seal. This license was for a fight on October 10 between John Clow and Jack Burke. At the time, Clow was the Colorado heavyweight champion. The fight was a rematch of a September 30 fight in Denver that was broken up by a near-riot during the fight, which was never completed. Police intervened, and the fight was rescheduled for a different place- Leadville. it looks like Clow was defeated in 4 rounds. This may be the only surviving early heavyweight fight license in existence for a western heavyweight fight in the pre-1910 era.
