Brass, single-chime railroad steam whistle, about 20 inches tall and 1-3/4 inches in diameter. Has two orifices but only one undivided resonating chamber above them. Windways are unobstructed. Brass surface is slightly but evenly corroded with no dents or deep scratches. Whistle has been mounted in a brass flange so it will stand vertically. Brass cylinder is stamped with P E R Y near the base between the two orifices. This refers to the Pacific Electric Railway, created in 1901 by Henry E. Huntington and banker Isaias W. Hellman. A great merger with seven other lines in 1911 made Pacific Electric the largest interurban electric railway passenger service provider in the world. The railway eventually succumbed to the web of freeways that began to appear in the 1950s. See photo for condition and design details.
