Five pieces in this lot including 1) Beautifully machined, all-brass mini sextant, complete with six shades (filters) and vernier reticle, about 5 x 5 x 2.5 inches. Comes in a custom-made, hinged wooden box with brass trim, 6 x 5.5 x 3.25 inches. Fully intact with a nice, warm brown patina; 2) Solid brass sundial, 4.25 x 4.5 x 4.5 when unfolded. Base has a large, damped magnetic compass for aligning the device and three leveling screws. Beautiful display piece that comes in a 5.5 x 5.5 x 2.5-inch, custom-made, hinged wooden box with the same inlaid brass anchor as item 1. Beautiful display piece, but not something you'll set your watch with; 3) Larger brass sextant, approx 8.5 x 7.5 x 4 inches, missing the index mirror on the index arm, but otherwise complete with six neutral-density shades (filters), half-silvered horizon mirror, thimble, and vernier scale. Wooden handle mounted on the back. Originally a working instrument showing use. No case; 4) small, solid brass transit, definitely more decorative than precise, but has three leveling screws on the base, magnetic compass in the middle (not spinning freely), sighting telescope with brass lens cap on the front lens, and a leveling vial on top. This will look good on your desk or bookshelf, but don't plan to plat your new townsite with it. No box or case; 5) Solid brass, "Brunton-like" field compass, again more decorative than precise, but it has a functional magnetic needle, mirror inside the lid with reticle slot, and two folding sighting reticles. Nice display piece, but don't map your geology with this one. Approx 3 x 3 x1 inches. See photos for details on each of these items.
