This is a bright and colorful cert in pinkish red. # 136 for 50 shares to JR Capelberry. Signed by AL Grant and E(dwin) Wilson. Dateline New York 1874. Vignette has sidewheelers, a train and miners. Moss & Company printer out of Philadelphia. No edge, corner pinhole or discoloration issues. Not cancelled and issued in the middle of a major dispute. In 1873 a William Kemble went to work for Edwin Wilson at the Bristol Franklinite Company. As the mine's representative he had a run-in with the New Jersey Zinc Company. They took turns confronting each other with ever increasing numbers of men. When the Bristol was sud Wilson and the Bristol Franklinite Company defaulted and left Franklin. That left Kemble responsible for paying $163. After the sheriff took his horses, cows, carpet chairs, etc., he finally paid 18 months late. According to this story, this stock was issued after the Bristol packed up and left Franklin? Franklinite is named after the locality of Franklin, New Jersey, where it is found. To date, this mineral is found only at Franklin and neighboring Ogdensburg, New Jersey.
