Two British legal documents regarding dissolution of marriage, and custody of a prostitute's body, c1744 and 1768.
The first is dated "Die Luna 4. Marty 1744" requesting the appearance in Parliament of several named people, "to attend this House" for a hearing regarding "An Act for Dissolving the Marriage of Daniel Mathew Esq with Penelope Smith his now Wife and to enable him to Marry again." 15.5" x 11.75". Some soiling and @ 4" tear starting at center fold.
The second, dated July 27, 1768, is "Westminster to wit. To the Governor of Tothill-Fields Bridewell, or his Deputy." The 8" x 6.5" document is for the delivery of a body, to "Receive into your Custody the Body of Mary Evans herewith sent you, Brought before me, by (a constable, David last name illegible) and charged upon the Oath of Richard Barnard for being a loose idle disorderly person a person of evil fame, common Prostitute and Night Walker." With large illegible signature and a wax seal that is hidden beneath a folded corner. Lightly soiled.
