Germany – Pössneck: 1923 boxed set of three medals commemorating the centennial of Goethe's visit to Pössneck in 1823. 31mm bronze medal with a high relief bust of Goethe on the obverse with the incuse date, September 13, 1923, below. Reverse inscription identifies it as a commemoration of Goethe's stay with a Goethe quote: "Oh! why, ye gods, is everything infinite, everything, finally only our happiness!" A white 47mm Meissen porcelain medal with gold trim. Goethe portrayed on the obverse, with the same quote on the reverse. A 51mm brown Meissen porcelain medal with gold trim. The Golden Lion where Goethe spent the night on the obverse and the inscription, "wandering together unflinchingly, the stars shine down forever" on the reverse. The quotes are from his unfinished play, Pandora. Well preserved box with three unc medals.
