This 6.75-inch long unmarked bronze signal cannon is likely a copy of a mid-19th century British gun, as it does not appear to replicate any US cannons of the period. Trunnions are usually cast close to the center of mass, so the lowered trunnions on this signal gun would allow for firing at an elevated angle. Powder residue indicates that this piece has been fired, but rather than ever firing a projectile, this gun was likely only used for signaling. From the Dick Reyes Collection, Carson City. Reyes was a cannon collector. He had seven cannons at one time. This piece was reported to family members as coming from a general's desk. It was one of his favorite artifacts that he'd never sell.
