Two types of horse drawn streetcar tokens: 1) OAKLAND / BROOKLYN / & / FRUITVALE / R.R. / COMPANY // ONE FARE / 1871 (car has 7 windows); 2) OAKLAND / BROOKLYN / & / FRUITVALE / R.R. / COMPANY // ONE FARE / 1871 (car has 8 windows). Both: copper, round, 18 mm. The Brooklyn and Fruitvale Railroad Company was organized by E.C. Sessions to develop his Highland Park real estate holdings. From the Southern Pacific station at 13th Avenue, it ran northeast to the present junction of Fruitvale Avenue and Hopkins Street, a distance of about 2 1/2 miles. It later was extended down Fruitvale to the S. P. tracks.
