The two classic, first-ever for the government reporting of mines and mining in the West. One of the great parts about these two volumes is that Congress had James Taylor write about the mines East of the Rocky Mountains, which are separately paginated in the back of each of the two volumes.
This work was a landmark work, a pure and absolute necessity for the metals and mining investment businesses. Here, Congress hired a Treasury agent working in California during the Gold Rush known for his good work and perseverance. These two volumes centered on major ore deposits of the late 1860s inclusive of teh California gold regions, Comstock, Reese River etc. It also discussed other important metal mines, such as copper.
