Now here is a most rare, most interesting stock certificate. It is an oyster stock from Georgia ñ not where you would think of when you think of oysters! #50 for 6 shares issued to BA Hancock in 1892. Signed by president Hancock. Hardly seen OYSTER vignette. Vertical folds and numerous pin holes. Otherwise very nice. The entire plant, machinery, oyster boats and supplies burned to the ground July 15, 1893. The company was founded in 1891 to operate an oyster fishery off the Atlantic coast of Georgia. George Washington ranked the port of Brunswick in the top five immigration ports in the United States. In the heyday of the fishing industry, the city was nicknamed "The Shrimp Capital of the World".
