Central Vermont Railroad special train advertising broadside for Buffalo Bill's Wild West performance to take place in Rutland, Vermont on July 27, 1895. This would make Annie Oakley a star attraction, even though she's not mentioned on the bill.
This piece measures 10"x 21" and is framed. Billed as "America's Educational Exhibition," The Buffalo Bill Wild West Show & Congress of Rough Riders, ran from 1883-1916 and featured at one time Chief Sitting Bull and a re-enactment of the Battle of Little Big Horn, a re-created attack on the Deadwood Stage and others. It was no surprise that Cody always came out as the hero in such staged confrontations. Interestingly, this poster has a handwritten inscription toward the bottom by H.L. Sheldon testifying to his attendance at this performance. Sheldon was a prominent citizen of Salisbury, Vermont with a passion for collecting. His aim was to build a museum around his collection. That museum exists today. This broadside is in very nice condition and is a collector's item. Please see photos for more details. Gary Bracken Collection
