This is a beautifully framed lithograph from 1902 depicting a scene from the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad in 1866. The original by G. E. Widney would have been painted when the UP Railroad was less than 40 years old. The lower left corner credits the St. Louis Globe Democrat, originally a daily print newspaper that published from 1852 to 1986. The scene depicts an attack on the railroad engine and work crew by undisclosed attackers in the far distance. The image is approximately 10.5 x 7.75 inches with a ~13 x 10.5 inch opening. The carved wooden frame is approximately 16x20 inches. A paper label is glued on the paper backing that says, "Building of Unin Pacific Railroad -- 1866 -- 1902 Lithograph." It is ready to hang on a sturdy wire across the back. State: City: Date: 1902
