The Bullion Mining Company is perhaps most famously known as the first property that two of the celebrated 'Bonanza Kings', Mackey and Fair bought majority interest in. Located directly on the Comstock Lead between two major producing mines (the Chollar and the Exchequer) they assumed it would also become a major producer. Unfortunately, no significant paying ore was ever found at the depths of the Bullion. Uncancelled. Vignette of a helmet with wings (Mercury). Printed by Galloway, 550 Clay St., S.F. The mine was located in 1859 known then as the Cosser Claim and is located immediately south of the Chollar and north of the Exchequer, both producing mines on the Comstock Lode. In spite of that location, no paying ore was found in the Bullion Mine and by mid-1878, some 51 assessments (Some on reverse) were made amounting to $2,802,000. (p. 177-78 Pacific Coast Mining Review 1878-79). John Mackay, and William Fair, two of the Bonanza Kings had been part owners and Mackay the mining superintendent at the Bullion. The Mine was later reincorporated on Jan. 19, 1874, and capitalized at $10,000,000. Printer: Britton & Co., S.F. Cancelled by writing across face. 4 x 9." Black print, no vignette.
