H. S. Homans was a Notary Public and Commissioner of Deeds for the Nevada Territory. (What is a Nevada Territory Commissioner of Deeds doing in San Francisco?) Homans was also a mining secretary. His office was at 605 Montgomery Street, between Clay & Merchant. This is a San Francisco business card on coated paper. Coated paper was high end, especially during the California Gold Rush. This can be dated as Nevada was only a territory from 1861 to 1864. 2" x 3" State: California City: San Francisco Date: c1863 FHWAC#: 42644
