RAILROAD WILL BUILD, Butte and Plumas Logging Line Will Be Pushed to Early Completion,

Special to the T'nion OROVILLE (Butte Co.). Nov. 9. The Truckee Lumber Company is making preparations for the vigorous prosecution of the work on it's logging road, known as the Butte and Plumas railroad, to be built from this city to its belt of timber in the mountains. The new locomotives of the road in the yards of the Southern Pacific at this city were steamed and will be started on the hauling of rails for track laying. There are more than twenty miles of steel rails piled In the Southern Pacific yards'. The right of way has been graded from Whitewashed Trees, four miles from Oroville, to the crossing of the middle fork of the Feather River. As soon as the grading from Whitewashed Trees to this city is completed track laying will be commenced from Oroville. There are over 700 men employed on the Butte and Plumas Railroad. The present contract calls for the construction of thirty-five miles of railroad, and as the timber is cut the road will be extended into Plumas county. The Butte and Plumas Railroad Company has made no definite plans for its depot at this city, and it is understood that none will be made until the Southern Pacific announces its intentions in regard to its proposed new depot. Agent Slissman of the Southern Pacific has received assurances from the resident engineer's office that the plans for the new depot have been completed and that the appropriation necessary for the building has been made by Manager Calvin. It is certain that the building will be commenced before the end of the year. Ken Prag Collection
