Butterfly Kachina by Lawrence Acadiz (1964-2014). 13.5" h x 4" w x 4" d. One butterfly wing missing. Acadiz was a member of the Deer and Kachina clans of the Hopi tribe. Recognized as a gifted artist at a young age, he attended the prestigious Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, N.M., where he formally studied painting. It wasn't until 1984 that he began carving. A self-taught kachina doll carver for 20 years now, Lawrence came from a line of well-known Hopi artists. Date: 1995 Location: Hopi, Arizona HWAC # 48850
